To celebrate the first half century of the International Conference of Symphony and Opera Musicians (ICSOM), the 50th anniversary ICSOM conference will be held in Chicago, the city of ICSOM’s formative meetings, August 22-25, 2012.
The Westin Michigan Avenue Chicago has been selected as the host hotel for the 50th anniversary ICSOM conference. The conference will be hosted by the musicians of Chicago’s three great ICSOM orchestras - the Chicago Symphony, the Lyric Opera Orchestra of Chicago, and the Grant Park Symphony, as well as by the Chicago Federation of Musicians, Local 10-208 of the American Federation of Musicians.
The Westin Michigan Avenue Chicago, which faces the John Hancock Center, is located on the Magnificent Mile and is surrounded by the upscale shops of 900 North Michigan and Water Tower Place, close to Lake Michigan. It is also conveniently located near many of Chicago’s finest restaurants and cultural attractions.
Thanks to the work of ICSOM President Brian Rood, with assistance from Treasurer Michael Moore, Secretary Laura Ross, and Member-at-Large Matt Comerford, a room rate of $119 has been negotiated for the conference at the Westin, an excellent rate for such a beautiful location in one of America’s greatest cities. Many of the rooms offer scenic views of Lake Michigan on one side or bustling Michigan Avenue on the other.
Conference information and reservation information will be sent to delegates, AFM officers and staff and local officers who attended the 2011 conference in May 2012 by ICSOM Secretary Laura Ross. Others interested in attending the conference should contact the ICSOM secretary at lar2vln@comcast.net.
