The Grand Teton Music Festival in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, announced Sunday,
April 21, that Eiji Oue (pron. AY-gee OH-way) will assume the position of
music director effective September 1, 1996. The appointment marks the culmination
of a 20-month search. Oue is music director of the Minnesota Orchestra,
and will hold both positions concurrently--residing in Jackson Hole during
six of the Festival's eight weeks.
"Maestro Oue brings to the Grand Teton Music Festival an enormous musical
talent, outstanding leadership qualities and growing international stature,
as well as a
strong commitment to the Jackson Hole community and to the education and
outreach activities of our festival," said Festival Board President
Chuck Baker. "We believe that the Grand Teton Music Festival, its patrons,
audiences, musicians, and the community at large will benefit in many ways
from his personal presence in our community and his association with our
wonderful festival."
"I am excited about the Grand Teton Music Festival and the music I
will be making with the outstanding musicians of this festival," Oue
said. "I look forward to working with the dedicated musicians and staff
to continue an exciting summer music festival."
Eiji Oue is the second music director in the Festival's 35-year history.
He follows the long tenure of Ling Tung, who assumed the music directorship
in 1968.
