FLORIDA PHILHARMONIC TO PRESENT FREE MIZNER PARK CONCERT
The Florida Philharmonic will once again offer a free concert at the Mizner
Park Amphitheater on Saturday, June 1 at 8:00 p.m. Picnic baskets, beach
blankets and lawn chairs are in order for a delightful evening under the
stars.
Associate Conductor Duilio Dobrin will lead South Florida's premier orchestra
in a program featuring tenor Bruce Reed in such popular songs and arias
as "La Donna e Mobile" from Verdi's Rigoletto, DiCapua's
O Sole Mio and "E Lucevao Le Stelle" from Puccini's Tosca
.The program also includes Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 4 in A, Op. 90, Italian,
Berlioz's Roman Carnival overture, and Tchaikovsky's Capriccio
Italien, Op. 45.
Tenor Bruce Reed made his New York City Opera debut in 1978 as Camille de
Rosillon in The Merry Widow featuring Beverly Sills. Harold Schonberg
of The New York Times wrote, "Bruce Reed, making his debut as
Camille, revealed an attractive tenor and an equally attractive stage presence,
he has a sweet voice and the ability to turn a phrase with elegance."
In concert, Mr. Reed has frequently appeared with the Buffalo Philharmonic
in Handel'sMessiah with Julius Rudel and Christopher Keene conducting. Other
credits include Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the Syracuse Symphony and
Menotti's Missa "O Pulchritudot" with the Savannah Symphony conducted
by Christian Badea. He has also appeared as guest soloist with the Rochester,
Evansville, and Dayton Philharmonics. He has performed with the Chamber
Music Society of Lincoln Center, both at Alice Tully Hall and at the Kennedy
Center.
Previous Philharmonic outdoor concerts at Mizner Park have been very popular
so, guests are
encouraged to arrive early for favored listening locations and parking.
The concert is presented by the City of Boca Raton and is sponsored in part
by Mrs. Mildred McIntosh, Mrs. Jane Schmieder, Mr. Shepard D. Osherow, The
Osherow Foundation, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Green, Target Stores, WPBT Channel
2, American Express Financial Advisors, and U.S. Trust.
