ROPA Treasurer Killed in Auto Accident
It is with deep sorrow that I announce the death of ROPA Treasurer and AFM
Local 257 Secretary-Treasurer, Michael Karr. He was killed (with his mother)
in a traffic accident in Nashville on Monday evening, May 20, 1996. They
are survived by his father, Jack Karr.
Mike was a long-time leader and founder of the Regional Orchestra Players'
Association and was serving his second term as Treasurer of the organization.
He was a friend, confidante, and trusted advisor. He was a hard worker for
Local 257 and was also involved in the international Phono Agreement negotiations.
All this was on top of performing as a violist with the Nashville Symphony,
a position he resigned when he took the Secretary-Treasurer job in Local
257. All of us on the ROPA Executive Board mourn his passing and will miss
him deeply.
On behalf of the ROPA Executive Board, I offer our heartfelt condolences
to his family and his friends in the Nashville Symphony, Mike's friends
in the ROPA orchestras, Local 257, and in the International Office. Mike's
passing a is blow to all musicians in the labor movement.
Please contact me or Local 257 if you would like information about the funeral
or memorials, not yet finalized.
