from the Oregon Symphony Players' Association:

PORTLAND, Ore., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, in front of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 99, at 325 N.E. 20th, the musicians of the Oregon Symphony announced that they have chosen to use their right to strike. Fred Sautter, principal trumpet for the Symphony and spokesperson for the musicians, said, "This means that the musicians have decided to strike effective tomorrow. We will not be attending our rehearsal Tuesday morning nor will we be attending rehearsals or performing concerts until the issues that concern us are addressed seriously."

"As you know, the musicians of the Symphony, the Oregon Symphony Players Association, authorized a strike vote last Wednesday. We announced at that time that we would play the Park Concerts and the Gala. We also announced that if there hadn't been significant progress in our negotiations after the Gala, we would strike. We are now forced to follow through with that plan."

"We all hope our concerns will be satisfactorily addressed by management in the near future," concluded Sautter.
