from the American Symphony Orchestra League, September 12:

The Board of Directors and its designated Search Committee actively seek nominations for and expressions of interest in the presidency of the American Symphony Orchestra League.

Founded in 1942, the League provides leadership and service to American orchestras while at the same time communicating to the American public the value and importance of orchestras and the music they perform. The current President has served the League for twenty-two years, sixteen of those as the organization's chief executive officer. The League is governed by a 54-member Board of Directors and currently employs 37 professional and support staff.

The next President will direct the focus of current strategic, fund-raising, and financial planning initiatives and implement those newly articulated goals. The President should be an individual who cares about music and the important role of American orchestras in our society who possesses the experience and capacities to lead and administrate a complex organization and a diverse and inclusive membership; and who evidences the vision and savvy to represent the League as national spokesperson and advocate to governmental agencies, foundations, and individual donors.

An appointment is anticipated early in 1997. Review of credentials will begin on October 15, 1997. Please forward nominations and expressions of interest, in confidence, to:
