Philadelphia Orchestra Musicians to Play Concerts

Musicians of the Philadelphia Orchestra will play a series of public concerts commencing with a "Kiddie Koncert" tomorrow, October 10. All concerts are open to the press. The schedule of concerts, which will be updated, is as follows.

Kiddie Koncert: Thursday, October 10, 11:30 a.m.-Noon. The Wister String Quartet will play with bassist Dave Faye at KLEIN BRANCH OF THE JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER, 10100 Jamison Avenue, NE Philadelphia. The concert is designed to appeal to young children and the young at heart. Program to include "Pop Goes The Weasel" by some of the nation's best string players. Nancy Bean and Davyd Booth (violins), Pamela Fay (viola), and Lloyd Smith (cello).

The Musicians of the Orchestra have been on strike since Monday, September 16, 1996. The Musicians announced today that there will be a rally held in support of the striking Orchestra on Wednesday, October 16, in front of the Academy of Music. The rally, sponsored by the American Federation of Musicians, will feature live performances by Orchestra members and speeches by nationally recognized organized labor officials.

An Afternoon With Mozart and the Principal Players of the Philadelphia Orchestra. On Sunday, October 13, the Principal Players of the Philadelphia Orchestra will plan an all Mozart concert at Temple Keneseth Israel at 3:00 p.m. Doors will open at 2:15 p.m., and admission is on a first-come, first-seated basis. The Program will include: A Musical Joke, K.522, Serenade for Winds in C minor, K.388, and Viola Quintet in C major, K.515. Call 610-664-7073 for additional information. A $20 donation is suggested.
