PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ The Philadelphia Orchestra Association has canceled all Orchestra performances through Oct. 29. It appears that the efforts of Mayor Rendell to resolve the strike will not produce results in time to begin rehearsals for this weekend's subscription concerts. The Association remains hopeful that the process which was proposed by the Mayor on Friday, Oct. 18, will produce a contract settlement in the near future, after which the Orchestra Association will resume concerts. This is now the sixth week of concerts which the Association has been forced to cancel.
Three subscription concerts are affected by this latest cancellation:
The program was to have been led by British conductor Mark Wigglesworth and would have included Debussy's "Prelude a l'apres-midi d'un faune," Britten's "Sinfonia da requiem," and the complete ballet score of Ravel's "Daphnis et Chloe," featuring the Mendelssohn Club.
This week of cancellations also affects a free student dress rehearsal scheduled for Friday, Oct. 25, at 10:30 a.m. Those holding passes to the student dress rehearsal should call the Education Department at 215-893-1978 for more information.
The West Philadelphia Committee's Morning Musicale, scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 11 a.m., will be moved from the Academy of Music Ballroom to the Acorn Club, located at 1519 Locust Street. The first in a
series of three recitals showcasing young artists, this program features pianist Adam Nieman. For more information, call 215-893-1956.
Canceled performances will not be rescheduled. The options available to ticket holders remain the same as when the strike began on Sept. 16:
All subscribers and single ticket buyers have been sent a letter outlining these options, along with a Ticket Request Form. Subscribers should hold onto tickets for any canceled concert until the strike is over. Single ticket buyers who choose any of the above options other than a refund should hold onto their tickets until the strike has ended.
For more information, ticket holders may call a special telephone
hotline set up by the Patron Services Department at 215-893-1880.
