PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The following statement was issued today by Stuart W. Davidson, Esq., chief negotiator for the Philadelphia Orchestra Members Committee:
The chief negotiator for the striking Philadelphia Orchestra musicians today faulted the management of the Orchestra for purposefully misstating his position regarding a contract proposal that was rejected by the musicians.
"Their statement is clever public relations, but it isn't the truth." said chief negotiator Stuart W. Davidson, Esq. of a recent mailing by management to their "Subscribers and Donors."
As part of management's "Information" mailing, management wrote about the proposal that was ultimately rejected by the musicians stating, "The Mayor's office helped broker a fair compromise between The Philadelphia Orchestra Association and its musicians. ...The proposal was agreed to by the lead negotiators for both the musicians and the Association."
Davidson said, "That simply isn't true."
"Neither I nor the (Negotiating) Committee agreed to the Mayor's proposal. I did agree to present the Mayor's proposal to the Negotiating Committee and to the membership as it was deemed a final proposal by the Association's Board.
"When I first received the offer from the Mayor's representative, I advised him that I thought it would be rejected by the Negotiating Committee.
"To issue a substantial misstatement of fact to the musicians, subscribers, donors and the public is to execute yet another serious disservice upon the musicians and their supporters.
"Their statement is nothing more than a shabby public relations
ploy aimed at distorting the facts and intended to divide the union."
concluded Davidson.
