from the musicians of the Atlanta Symphony, November 20:
WHEREAS, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is of tremendous importance to Fulton County for its positive cultural and artistic significance, and
WHEREAS, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is a key ingredient in the decision of many businesses to locate in metropolitan Atlanta and Fulton County and, therefore, has significant impact on economic development in this region; and
WHEREAS, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra currently is recognized as a world-class orchestra in its outstanding quality, and
WHEREAS, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners has a strong commitment to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra which has been an enormous source of community, regional, and national pride; and
WHEREAS, since 1979, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners has authorized public funds for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra amounting to more than 2 million dollars; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners is extremely concerned over the current impasse in discussions between the leadership of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's board of directors/management and the musicians,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Fulton County Board of Commissioners hereby expresses its sincere concerns over the current impasse in discussions between the leadership of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's board of directors/management and the musicians; and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the board of Commissioners of Fulton County
hereby encourages the management of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra to take
those steps necessary to continue negotiations with the Atlanta Symphony
Orchestra musicians so that the number of musicians and the salary of the
musicians are sufficient to maintain the world-class status of the Atlanta
Symphony Orchestra.
