Meredith Snow, a violist in the Los Angeles Philharmonic, has been elected Chairperson of the International Conference of Symphony and Opera Musicians (ICSOM) at ICSOM's annual conference, held August 24-27, 2016 in Washington, DC. Snow succeeds Bruce Ridge, who had held the position since 2006.
"I am honored and excited to be elected to serve as Chair of ICSOM," said Snow. "Under Bruce's leadership, ICSOM has raised the visibility of both ICSOM and our member orchestras, and is changing the dialog around classical music in our society." She added, "we will continue to advocate for our orchestras, our communities, and for the power of music to make a difference in our world."
"It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as ICSOM Chair for these past ten years," said Ridge. "I am so happy that my dear friend Meredith Snow has been elected as the next chairperson. I am certain that under her leadership ICSOM will become an even more prominent advocate for the arts everywhere, and the friendships among musicians throughout the world will grow even stronger."
Snow, a native of Long Island, New York, received her bachelor's and master's degrees from the Juilliard School of Music A former member of the Colorado String Quartet, she became a member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 1986 after three years with the San Francisco Opera Orchestra. She appears often with the Philharmonic Chamber Music Society and the Philharmonic New Music Group, and performs at the Music in the Mountains Festival in Durango, Colorado every summer. Snow lives in the San Fernando Valley with her husband and son.
The International Conference of Symphony and Opera Musicians (ICSOM) represents over 4000 symphonic musicians in the top 52 orchestras in the United States.
