On May 1, 2009, the musicians of the Nashville Symphony ratified an amendment to their existing agreement that expires July 31, 2012. The musicians were approached in early April to meet with management and board representatives to explore possible solutions to address the continuing financial issues facing the organization. Issues of concern include an endowment that has been significantly reduced and which impacts both the orchestra and their new home - Schermerhorn Symphony Center, as well as reduced donations and ticket sales.
The musicians agreed to freeze wages and pension for six-months from August 1, 2009 through January 31, 2010. During that time the negotiating committees will meet every 30 days to review the institution’s finances during these 6 months. In January the musicians will assess the then-current economic climate and their respective position.
